I am grateful to Secretary-General Guan Fa-chuan, Chairman Su Wei-ren, and Dr. Zhou Jie-ying and Director Wu Zhi-xing of the National Cheng Kung University Hospital Family Medicine Department for their invitation to introduce the literature review and application of **Nerve Block Therapy**, **High-Frequency Thermocoagulation Therapy**, and Transarterial Microembolization (TAME) in the treatment of joint pain.

**Nerve Block Therapy** and **High-Frequency Thermocoagulation Therapy** are treatments targeting pain-causing nerves. **Nerve Block Therapy** involves both diagnosis and treatment to block pain-causing nerves and reduce pain.

**Pulsed Radiofrequency (PRF)** in high-frequency thermocoagulation therapy transmits radiofrequency current in pulses, with intervals between each pulse. Due to the pulsed application, tissue is not subjected to continuous high heat, thus avoiding tissue damage. The main mechanism is neuromodulation, altering nerve conduction and pain perception, influencing nerve conduction with low heat to avoid tissue damage. It is commonly used to treat sciatica caused by herniated discs.

**RFA (Radiofrequency Ablation)** in high-frequency thermocoagulation therapy uses rapidly alternating currents to generate ion oscillations in bipolar water molecules. This generates frictional heat, leading to coagulative necrosis and tissue destruction, thereby relieving pain or burning away the painful nerves. It includes different techniques and materials such as bipolar radiofrequency ablation and cooled radiofrequency ablation.

Pain management encompasses a wide range of aspects. [Hyperplastic injection therapy], [nerve block], [high-frequency thermocoagulation], and [Transarterial Microembolization (TAME)] are areas Bow Wang, M.D. covers extensively. The most suitable treatment needs to be discussed with a doctor, and a decision should be made after assessing the advantages and disadvantages of various treatments.
