TAME & Musculoskeletal Embolization
Knee Osteoarthritis Treated with TAME and Prolotherapy — Case Report
Author: Bow Wang, M.D.
Ms. J, from Hong Kong, had been experiencing pain on the inner side of both knees for over three years. She had to endure this pain daily, feeling tightness when walking and weakness in her legs when standing or sitting. Various treatments had not provided significant improvement.
Ms. J's husband, Mr. T, found a video on YouTube featuring Bow Wang, M.D. and Dr. Dai Dawei introducing the treatment [Transarterial Microembolization (TAME), TAME]. He then flew from Hong Kong to Taiwan to consult with Bow Wang, M.D. at the National Cheng Kung University Hospital Interventional Medical Center.
After consultation and X-ray examination, Bow Wang, M.D. diagnosed Ms. J with "osteoarthritis of the knee." Following discussion, Transarterial Microembolization (TAME), TAME, was prescribed treatment for Ms. J. [TAME]
Guided by ultrasound and X-ray fluoroscopy, under local anesthesia, a microcatheter was inserted into the painful area via groin artery puncture using Bow Wang, M.D.. Under arterial angiography, embolizing medication was then injected through the microcatheter.
After treatment, Ms. J's pain was relieved. Bow Wang, M.D. was used at a later interval to perform a local knee regenerative injection therapy on Ms. J. Prolotherapy.
After treatment, Ms. J's knee pain significantly improved after a 3-5 day recovery period following the injection, and walking became much easier and more comfortable. We wish Ms. J's knee pain continued improvement, and that she and her husband can happily travel together.
