[Taiwan Interventional Radiology Society 111th Annual Symposium 2022-11-5] [Academic Exchange] [Transarterial Microembolization (TAME)] Indications, Principles, and Successful Case Sharing of Chronic Shoulder Pain

Today, I am honored to be invited by Senior Dr. Chih-Hung Wu of the Department of Radiology at National Taiwan University Hospital to give a presentation at the 111th Annual Conference of the Taiwan Society for Interventional Radiology to explain the application of [Transarterial Microembolization (TAME)] in chronic shoulder pain.

【Transarterial Microembolization (TAME)】is applied to areas of chronic joint and tendon pain including fasciitis, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendinitis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, osteoarthritis of the knee, post-knee replacement surgery pain, plantar fasciitis, etc.

The possible mechanism of action of 【Transarterial Microembolization (TAME)】includes reducing harmful, destructive chronic inflammation by eliminating disordered microvascular proliferation, and blocking associated pain-related nerve responses.

A 2022 systematic reviews (SR) and meta-analyses (MA) study showed that the analgesic effect of embolization in the shoulder was more significant than that in the knee at the third and sixth postoperative period.

Chronic pain has many causes and treatment methods. With proper diagnosis and a comprehensive approach combining various treatments, including different image-guided methods, pain can potentially be improved.
