[June 2022 Southern Taiwan Anesthesia and Pain Management Conference] [2022 Taiwan Society of Interventional Radiology (TSIR) Rising Star at NTUH] [Academic Exchange]
Author: Bow Wang, M.D.
This morning, I was honored to be invited by Dr. Lin Zhongren, Director of the Anesthesiology and Pain Management Department at National Cheng Kung University Hospital, to participate in the online conference of the Southern Taiwan Anesthesiology and Pain Management Monthly Meeting, hosted by the Anesthesiology Department of National Cheng Kung University Hospital, the Taiwan Society of Anesthesiology, and the Taiwan Pain Medicine Association.
Since 2019, I've been working with Transarterial Microembolization (TAME). Besides becoming more skilled and understanding the intricacies of the technique, I've also tried to mentor my fellow resident physicians, helping them grow and improve together. Congratulations to my fellow resident, Ting-Jun, on the successful case study of applying Transarterial Microembolization (TAME) to infrapatellar fat pad syndrome in the knee joint, which was published in the international journal *Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology* (JVIR) (Letter to Editor).Article Link Here
Transarterial Microembolization (TAME) has already garnered a large number of international publications, and many physicians across Taiwan, from north to south, are performing this technique. I'd like to take this opportunity to compile and share information about the physicians I know who are using this technique.
【Transarterial Microembolization (TAME)】can be applied to the treatment of various musculoskeletal joint chronic pain. However, although this technique is minimally invasive, it still has a certain degree of invasiveness. Therefore, it is recommended for patients who have not seen significant improvement after various long-term traditional treatments, including oral medications, local injections, rehabilitation, etc., as an alternative before surgery, and is not suitable as a first-line treatment. Furthermore, accurate diagnosis is a very important consideration before receiving this treatment. Therefore, in addition to clinical symptoms and assessment, X-rays, ultrasound, and even MRI are necessary to aid in disease diagnosis.
Besides this, I also reviewed the various pain relief techniques I have learned from others or explored on my own since 2019, in addition to 【Transarterial Microembolization (TAME)】. Of course, compared with many experts, my knowledge may still be limited, but seeing my clinic patients and the increasing diversity of treatments I can provide is a gratifying thing.
This afternoon, while on duty, I listened online to my junior fellow resident, Bo-zhang, share his successful case of using Transarterial Microembolization (TAME) in patellar tendinitis/jumper's knee at the 2022 Taiwan Society of Interventional Radiology (TSIR) Rising Star presentation competition. Besides listening to his presentations and those of other experts, I also learned a great deal from the final presentation by senior fellow student Zhi-hong on "How to Give a Good Presentation." I hope my future presentations will be more easily absorbed and precise, and I also hope to help my juniors improve together.
